SERVICES

Kidsnet services are divided into two strategies: Community Support and Intensive Support. The main difference is that youth and families have to be referred to and enrolled in Intensive Support.

  • Training - KidsNet has a training committee that organizes both specialized county wide trainings, as well as monthly trainings for all child-serving agency staff.
  • Agency Programs - KidsNet programs consist of alternatives to juvenile detention programs; special education programs serving students who cannot be served during traditional school hours; and Juvenile Court predisposition weekly meetings, which develops agency and family recommendations for the Juvenile Judge.
  • Supportive Activities - KidsNet places certified mental health clinicians in all the child-serving agencies so as to screen youth for behavioral health and substance-abuse issues, respond to crises, and link families to community resources. In addition, KidsNet Rockdale/Newton offers a family-driven parent support group known as R.A.F.T.E.R. (Reaching All Families Through Experience and Relationships), and a youth-guided leadership council. For more information contact your Rockdale/Newton Service Coordinator.

Intensive Support Services are enrolled services for youth and families who are at-risk for out-of-community placement. Federal research suggests that youth better maintain their serious emotional disturbances and have better long-term results when they receive community-based services rather than institutionalization. These services are offered in conjunction with a mental health provider.

  • Coordination is where KidsNet makes sure all involved agencies have pertinent information and that services offered are effective.
  • Advocacy is where KidsNet attends school, court and other system of care meetings to either represent the parent/guardian or lend support.
  • Linking is where KidsNet finds appropriate community resources to better assist the needs of the family, and shows the family how to access these resources.
  • Monitoring is where KidsNet visits the youth at school, home or community to ensure that behavioral health needs are being addressed. KidsNet also informs mental health providers of current health information.
